What are the Limitations of GFR as a Diagnostic Tool?
Though invaluable, GFR has limitations:
- Serum Creatinine Variability: Factors like muscle mass, diet, and certain medications can affect serum creatinine levels, leading to inaccurate GFR estimates. - Non-Standardized Equations: Different equations may yield varied GFR results. - Acute Kidney Injury (AKI): GFR may not reflect rapid changes in kidney function seen in AKI.
