AKI can be caused by a variety of conditions that can be broadly classified into three categories:
1. Prerenal Causes: These are conditions that decrease blood flow to the kidneys, such as severe dehydration, heart failure, or severe blood loss. 2. Intrarenal Causes: These are conditions that directly damage the kidney tissue, such as acute glomerulonephritis, acute tubular necrosis, or certain nephrotoxic drugs. 3. Postrenal Causes: These are conditions that block the urinary tract, such as kidney stones, tumors, or an enlarged prostate.
